Moving gratitude meditation

It’s been said that gratitude is the highest frequency along with love. Gratitude is one of the greatest tools we can use to bring and perceive the joy already existent in our lives. It can cheer us up when we’re frustrated, or down. Shawn Achor, in The Happiness Advantage, tells us that the happiest people cultivate a gratitude practice. Experiencing a gratitude meditation is a great way to change up the idea of a gratitude journal. Thinking of things you’re grateful for is the easiest way to bring positivity in to our lives. If you want to be joyful, you’ve gotta practice gratitude!

Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness.

To me, going through a guided meditation on gratitude is a great way to marinate in the feeling and vibration of gratitude. It’s a great way to really savor the amazing positivity it brings. If you want to really anchor that experience and vibration into your body, all you have to do is add a little movement to it.

I like to incorporate a little modified half sun salutation. A short little vinyasa (yoga poses that flow together like a set) that physically opens your heart center as you meditate and think of the things you are grateful for.

Flowing Through Gratitude Meditation in the Body: A Short Yoga Flow/Moving Meditation

  1. Stand in mountain pose (tadasana): feet shoulder-width apart. Engage the legs, but don’t lock out your knees. Engage the abs. Shoulders away from the ears. Hands in prayer at heart center.
  2. Think of something you’re grateful for and really feel it in your heart.
  3. Inhale: circle the arms down around and up above your head as you visualize gathering all the positivity that comes with the gratitude you feel towards you.
  4. Exhale: slowly bring your arms into a goal post/cactus arms shape – elbows inline with your shoulders bent at 90°. Push your heart forward and up. Visualizing the expansion of this bright, glowing ball of gratitude shining forth to all the world
  5. Inhale: circle your arms down around and up
  6. Exhale: hinge at the hips. Bend your knees and fold forward, engaging the low abs
  7. Inhale: half lift, flat back, bringing your hands to your shins or your thighs
  8. Exhale: fold forward
  9. Inhale: Roll yourself up to standing as you circle your arms down around and up and bringing your hands to prayer in heart center
  10. Think of something else you’re grateful for as you Exhale and open your arms up into cactus/goal post arms; chest forward
  11. Inhale: circle your arms down around and up
  12. Exhale: hinge at the hips. Bend your knees and fold forward, engaging the low abs
  13. Inhale: half lift, flat back, bringing your hands to your shins or your thighs
  14. Exhale: fold forward
  15. Repeat one more time for a total of three times or as long as you feel you need to.
Gratitude is power, the opposite of despair, and the root of all happiness

Enjoy your gratefully joyful life!
