Do I Have Toxic Gut?

Do I have toxic gut? What does that mean?! Most of us know about anything that is Toxic: very harmful or unpleasant in a pervasive or insidious way. Now picture this inside the gut. Our gut is the hub of all health and energy we contain. It’s our very LIFE itself.

Personality Traits Tied To Toxic Gut

In addition to the gut being the hub of health, it is also the Energetic Hub of Emotions. If the gut is toxic, our emotions will follow along. There definitely are some personality traits that go with Toxic Gut. Here are a few of them:

  • Easily frustrated
  • Impatience
  • Being quick to anger

It’s no wonder these emotions show up with Toxic Gut! All these behaviors come easily when our gut is unhappy.

What Is The Reason Toxic Gut Happens?

Gut health can be summarized down to the nasty hit our gut takes when we eat processed food. Yes, REALLY! Processed foods typically have these qualities:

  • High fat
  • High sugar
  • Loads of chemicals, particularly synthetic/fake ingredients
  • Low quality nutrients

The gut responds to all these attacking foods by getting inflamed. This inflammation is like a suit of armor for self-protection.

The gut inflammation sets off a chain reaction in our liver and intestines. What can happen next is gallstones, rosacea, lupus, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis, allergies, asthma, acne, obesity, and even mental illness.

How Can I Heal From This?

The biggest way to heal from Toxic Gut is through the diet choices we make everyday. REALLY! The healthier our food, the happier our gut will be.

This comes down to eating REAL food. Real food is less processed and basically keeps it’s original form on our plates….in our stomachs.

Foods to eat all the time:

  • Lots of raw veggies
  • Cruciferous veggies (see Aida’s post about this)
  • Green veggies
  • Sour foods (sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha)
  • Herbal teas: dandelion, milk thistle

Foods to limit tremendously:

  • Processed foods (if it comes in packaging, it is likely processed)
  • Alcohol
  • Fried foods
  • Nuts and nut butters
  • Oils

Non-Food Ways To Help Heal

There are important actions that help beyond food changes. These are very enjoyable to do, so they can HELP emotions while helping the gut improve:

  • Get more sleep (the gut and entire body heals most during sleep)
  • Meditate (calming the mind and gut happens at the same time)
  • Exercise (this burns off emotions, gives more emotional stability, and helps the gut move things out)
  • Find some light and enjoyable moments daily
